10/14 – Public Trap Shooting @ Florence Recreation Area Trap Shooting Range, 5 – 7 pm
Cost to shoot: $3/round of 25 targets. All shooters need to bring their own gun, ammunition, and eye and ear protection. Voice-activated releases are available to use. All shooting will be supervised by a Certified Range Safety Officer. The Shooting Range is located at 42435 60th Avenue, Thompson, IA. 10/14 – Start Smart Webinar (Zoom) Hosted by NIACC, 6 – 8 pm
The NIACC Pappajohn Center and the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) is offering a FREE two-hour workshop via Zoom designed for anyone who is considering starting a business. At Start Smart, participants will learn how to create a business plan, do market research, discuss different types of business ownership, and learn how to register a business. 10/15 – FAVA Chili Drive Thru @ FAVA, 4 – 7 pm
FAVA is hosting their 9th Annual Chili event this year as a Drive Thru on October 15th from 4 – 7pm! Enjoy the finest chili in the area. This is a free will offering and all proceeds will help support homeless veterans and their families in our community. Drive up to the FAVA office located at 100 N Clark St to get your chili. Chili options are regular, white or vegetarian and the side dishes are garlic bread and cinnamon rolls. If you would like to donate funds or chili for the Drive Thru call 641-243-4103. 10/15 – Forest City Walking Tour @ Forest City Chamber, 5:15 pm
Forest City Connect is hosting a walking tour of downtown Forest City! Kevin Mason, History Professor at Waldorf University, will be giving the tour. This tour is free and open to the public – all ages welcome! Meet at the Forest City Chamber of Commerce (106 S 4th St) at 5:15 to start the tour. Masks are recommended and social distancing will be observed. 10/15 – Joe Milan Faculty Reading @ Boman Fine Arts Center Mezzanine, 7 pm
Dr. Joe Milan, Waldorf’s new Creative Writing professor, will be giving a public reading of his work this Thursday night (10/15) from 7 – 8 pm at the Boman Fine Arts Center, on the 2nd Floor Mezzanine. Come out and enjoy some excellent writing from one of our very own. All are welcome to this free event!
 
10/17 – Fall Craft & Vendor Show @ Midwest Duct Works, 9 am – 3 pm
Fall Vendor Show at Midwest Duct Works (1115 Hwy 69 S). Stop in and see what’s new with many local vendors from the area, find some neat custom items, clothing, gifts for that special someone, and enjoy the fall splendor.
 
10/17 – Chili Open (4 Person Best Shot) @ Bear Creek Golf Course, 10 am
Last event of the year! Grab a 4 some and come play in our Chili Open! We ask that each 4 some bring a crock pot of chili to share with others during and after the round. $10 entry fee, 10 am shotgun start.
 
10/20 – Frauds and Scams @ Forest City Chamber of Commerce, 6 pm
Learn about email scams, texting and phone scams, work from home scams and tips on what to do if you are approached or fall victim to scams. This presentation is sponsored by the Forest City Chamber of Commerce and will be given by Heidi Fedders, Director of Marketing at MBT Bank. FREE and open to the public! Social distancing practices will be used and masks are required at the event. For those unable to attend in person, we’ll be sharing a Zoom meeting invitation on the Facebook Event prior to the presentation.

10/24 – Friends of Pilot Knob Halloween Hike 2020 @ Pilot Knob, 5 – 6 pm
Join us for a hike around Deadman’s Lake! Learn about Pilot Knob’s nocturnal animals and have a treat when you are done! You may wear a costume if you wish. No weapons or scary costumes please. See the Facebook event here.
 
10/25 – Rake the Town @ Forest City Chamber of Commerce, 1 – 4 pm
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED for Rake the Town! Join Forest City Connect as we rake yards for the elderly and those in need. Call the Forest City Chamber of Commerce to sign up 585-2092. Masks are recommended and social distancing will be observed. Forest City Connect is a networking group focused on making connections with others in the community!
